Artist Statement
I'm Gyona Rice,
a proud Michigander and Bowling Green State University alumna. My art mirrors my journey as a Black woman in America, infused with my emotions and experiences.
Facing hurdles only fuels my passion for art as a tool for healing and empowerment. With skills in printmaking, digital art, collage, and graphic design, I create pieces reflecting the resilience of Blackness.
Each artwork, bursting with color and symbols from my life, invites celebration of Black culture. Join me on this journey to challenge stereotypes and honor the strength of Black women and men. Together, let's make art a beacon of love and understanding.
